William “Bill” J. Lutgen, Sr.
1939 - 2018


        William “Bill” John Lutgen, Sr., 78, of Bates City, MO, passed away on March 10, 2018 at the North Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
        Bill was born September 7, 1939 son of Aubra and Marie (Woodside) Lutgen in Kansas City, MO.  Bill married his teenage sweetheart Martha S. Anthony on August 3, 1963.  They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a family trip to Alaska and to this day enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
        Working at Quality Cartage for over 20 years until his retirement. Bill enjoyed the arthritis swimming class at the YMCA, loved going to car shows, auctions, and working with the Cub and Boy Scouts acting as a Cub-Master and Assistant Scoutmaster for Pack 286 and Troop 286 of Odessa. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence. Bill enjoyed NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt.  He had a wonderful smile that lit up the room and an infectious laugh!  He never met a stranger.
        He is survived by his wife Martha, his son William “Bill” John Lutgen, Jr. and his wife Crystal, his daughter Tara Lutgen and her fiancée David Cooper, and 2 granddaughters, Alyssa and Lilli, many nieces and nephews and his four legged fur baby Slick. Sisters; Charlotte Fisher and Pat Smith also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy Davis and Martha Gertner and lifelong best friend Milton Cook.
        Services will be held on Thursday, March 15th. Visitation from 10am-12pm followed by Funeral services at 12pm at Park Lawn Funeral Home at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO.
In lieu of flowers, please send Memorials to the University of Kansas Cancer Center or North Kansas City Hospice House.
